Langtang Region Trekking - 11 days

Langtang, a small valley sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north and slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the Tibetan border to the south, is just 19 miles north of Nepali capital Kathmandu. The highest peak in the region Langtang Lirung (7246m) dominates the northern valley; Gang Chenpo and Naya Kanga lie to the south; and Dorje Lapka (6966m) protects the eastern border of the Langtang valley. Langtang holds over 70 glaciers including Ganesh Himal and high altitude lakes like Parvatikunda, Gosainkunda, Dudhkunda and Bhairavkunda. Amongst some of the most exotic beauties of the entire trekking regions of the country, trek to Langtang valley provides memorable feast to the eyes with its hauntingly beautiful and mystical landscapes. Langtang National Park with wide range of plant and animal biodiversities lures bountiful wildlife lovers to this trekking trail every year. The trek begins at Syabru Beshi, which can be reached after about six hours’ road journey from Kathmandu. As, you pursue an ascending trial along the Bhote Koshi river through ethnic Tamang villages, thriving emerald woodlands and extensively stretched Kyangin valley encircled by snow-white peaks from all fours sides; and up to Kyangin at 3800 meters, you get a chance to climb Kyangjin Ri (4350m). After an ascent of Kyangjin Ri, you go back over the same route down the valley to Syabru Besi and then drive back to Kathmandu. Due to steady ascent along the river valley this Langtang trek is not considered strenuous, yet it remains demanding as it arrives at an elevation of 3800 meter at Kyangjin. The Langtang trek can be done any time of the year except during monsoons (July & August).

Day 05: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa 3800m

Day 10: Free day at Kathmandu/ Farewell Cultural Dinner

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel (1400m)

As you enter Nepal on a clear day, it is an electrifying experience to be welcomed by the panoramic view of snowcapped mountain ranges sprawling around, before you land in Kathmandu. A representative and driver from TAGnepal will meet and greet you at the airport. They will escort you to your designated hotel and help you in your check-in procedure. Thereafter, you will be thoroughly briefed about your travel plan.

Day 02: Drive to Syabru Beshi (1450m)

After your breakfast, you will leave Kathmandu valley through the winding road which passes through terraced fields, jungles, villages and all-encompassing views of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal etc. After a 6-hour drive, you will reach Syabru Besi at the bank of Trishuli river. You will stay overnight at one of the hotels at Syabru Beshi.

Day 03: Trek to Lama Hotel (2380m)

After breakfast, you will start today’s trek. The trail ascends on a ridge and reach Ghopcha Khola after some walking. Soon after, you will get the opportunity to get closer view of some wildlife, refreshing woods, terraced fields, cascades, lush vegetation and suspension bridge on the way. The trek will be even more interesting as you will be welcomed by roadside local teashops time and again.  As you walk further, you will come to Langtang Khola, which will add beauty to your journey. Finally you will arrive at Lama Hotel at an altitude of 2380m.

Day 04: Trek to Langtang Village (3500m)

You will resume your trek today from Lama Hotel. You will proceed through steeper trail towards Ghora Tabela (3000m). You will get to see the first glimpses of Langtang Lirung (7246m). Ghora Tabela is a small hub of that area with several lodges and a police check post. As you hike further up, you will pass through pastureland, sparse Tamang settlements and water mills. At last, you will reach Langtang village at 3500 meters. Langtang village is an impressive Tibetan style settlement with cultivated field patches having seasonal crops. This is an important stopover of the whole trek because it’s the headquarter for Langtang National Park.

Day 05: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3800m)

As you leave Langtang village, the trail passes gradually through a chorten, mani walls, two small villages and rich yak pastures till you come across a stream. After you walk across a moraine and cross a pass, you will arrive at Kyanjin Gompa. It is an old Tibetan Buddhist monastery full of interesting painted murals on walls. There is also a cheese factory popular among the trekkers. While arriving at the monastery you will have a splendid view of Yansa Tsenji (6580m) and Kimshun (6750m) to the north and Langtang Himal to the northwest; and also the side views of valleys, glaciers, glacier lakes are breathtaking.

Day 06: Day hike to Tsergo Ri and return to Kyanjin Gompa

You will explore the neighboring areas today. A day hike further up to Tserko Ri (5000m) will take about 4 hours. You can climb up the mountain as well if you are fit to do that. Alternatively, you can enjoy the rewarding experience of the spectacular views of famous mountains of that region. The valley past the airstrip will provide you more spectacular views that include Langtang Lirung (7246m), Ganchenpo (6400m), Langshisa Ri (6320m), Dorje Lakpa (6700m), Lenpo Gang (7100m), and Urkinmang (6170m) including Shisa Pangma of Tibet (8027m). You retrace back to Kyanjin Gompa for overnight stay.

Day 07: Trek to Lama Hotel

From Kyangjin, you descend back to Lama Hotel. You follow the same trail through Langtang Khola, Langtang village and Ghora Tabela till you arrive at Lama Hotel. You will stay overnight here after a day long trek.

Day 08: Trek to Syabrubenshi

Again you descend further down towards Syabrubeshi. You will meander through the same trail but grasp the opportunity to see the beauty of nature and rural life which you might have missed before. Your day will conclude at a comfortable hotel in Syabrubeshi.

Day 09: Drive back to Kathmandu

After a 6 hour bus drive through the hilly highway, you will conclude your trip in Kathmandu.

Day 10: Free day at Kathmandu/ Farewell Cultural Dinner

Today is your free day to let go off your exhaustion from a weeklong trek. You can just relax at the hotel room or lounge. The best option could be strolling down the streets, try some exotic cuisine and do some shopping. In the evening, our office representative will pick you up for Farewell Cultural dinner. At the end of the day, you will have the pleasure of local cuisine along with cultural music and dance.

Day 11: Departure back home

Finally your fun filled trip will come to an end. If you have some time before your departure time, you can stroll down the streets and do some last hour shopping. Your tour officer and a driver will be at your hotel reception to pick you up three and half hours prior to your departure. You will be transferred to the airport for your international flight back home.
