Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking, which is also known as small Annapurna Circuit trekking, is very popular among trekkers visiting Nepal. The trek route is one of the most visited areas of Annapurna trail because of the easy climb and varied landscape features. Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is suitable for every level of trekkers-beginners, families with children and old age groups as the trail has well managed local teahouses throughout. This trek is also suitable for those who have limited time but have love for snowcapped mountain peaks and want a real Himalayan cultural experience. During spring season, the trail gets bedecked with different species of wild rhododendron making the whole trail bloom in spectacular splendor. The glittering mountain scenery and the beautiful ethnic villages validate the popularity of Ghorepani trekking. This trekking offers splendid Himalayan views including Mount Dhaulagiri 8167m, Annapurna I 8091m, Fishtail / Machhapuchhre 6998m, Nilgiri 7041m, Annapurna South 7219m, Annapurna II 7939m, Annapurna III 7555m, Annapurna IV 7525m, Lamjung Himal 6988m etc. The main attraction of this trek is Poon Hill situated at an altitude of 3100m. It is one of the most spectacular mountain spots on earth to view fabulous sunrise over the Himalayas.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu (1400m) 

As you enter the northern border of Nepal on a clear day, it is an electrifying and superb experience to observe the panoramic view of snowcapped mountain ranges sprawling around, before you land in Kathmandu. A representative and driver from TAGnepal will meet and greet you at the airport and escort you to your designated hotel and help in your check-in procedure. Thereafter, you will be thoroughly briefed about your travel plan.

Day 02: Sightseeing tour of Boudhanath, Pashupatinath & Patan

Ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors, Kathmandu has been a great cultural and historical hub in Nepal to the tourists around the globe. The city is delightfully blended with Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influences. There will be a guided tour to the largest and the oldest Buddhist Stupa Boudhanath, which is followed by a tour to the mega Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva- Pashupatinath. You will take a tour to Patan or Lalitpur (the City of Artisans), which is 5 km away from Kathmandu. You will walk through Patan Durbar Square, and delight in the architectural wonders of Malla era that include Mahaboudha Temple, Kumbeshwor Temple, Krishna Temple and Golden Temple.

Day 03: Flight to Pokhara, Sightseeing and boating on Fewa Lake

The thirty-minute morning flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu airport might be your best moment in the air with the bountiful savoring views of mesmerizing Manaslu and snowcapped Annapurna mountain range. At Pokhara airport, you will once again enjoy the cordial welcome by our representative. Post lunch in the noon, you will start venturing into Pokhara which literally means “City of Lakes” as it has three beautiful lakes named Phewa, Begnas and Rupa. Your trip takes you to the mythological Davis fall, deep gorges of Seti River and Tibetan Refugee Camp. You will even get to explore the deep-seated mysteries of captivating cave Mahendra Gupha. After sightseeing, you can go for boating on Phewa Tal and bask in the spectacular view of legendary Mt. Fishtail amidst green tranquility.

Day 04: Drive to Phedi and trek to Dhampus (1700m)

As your trekking gears are all ready, after the breakfast you will be driven to Phedi. Your trekking in Annapurna region starts from this point. Every step you climb uphill, you come closer to the wonder of nature. Narrow trekking trials, rural inhabitants and perfection in nature get even better as you walk further. While walking several roadside teashops come into picture. Eventually, the trail leads to the Gurung village of Dhampus. Here, you will conclude your trip of the day.

Day 05: Trek to Landruk (1550m)

The trekking path away from Dhampus narrows as it skirts round a crest nose. Passing the first stoppage Pothana on the second day of the trek, you will reach Deurali. As you resume your trek from Deurali very shortly, you will be standing high up on the hill from where Modi Khola cascades to the west down the Annapurna Sanctuary. For the next four hours trekking continues until you reach charming Gurung settlement of Landrung. From this point, your trekking gets even more worthwhile with spectacular views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.

Day 06: Trek to Ghandruk (1940m)

You will begin your trek from Landruk along the patio of fields underneath the grand beauty of awe-inspiring glaciated Himalayan mountain ranges. As the trial passes a series of flatlands, woods, cultivated lands and a suspension bridge over Khumnu Khola, a beautiful village of Ghandruk comes into view after 3 to 4 hours of walk. Once you enter Ghandruk, which is also a cultural capital of Gurungs, you get an idyllic vantage point to view mesmerizing Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Machhapuchhare and Hiunchuli in their full grandeur. At Ghandruk, you can spot terraced fields and clusters of houses with slate roofs. Several hotels and teahouses at the village serve warmth and hospitality catering to your every need.

Day 07: Rest day at Ghandruk

A rest day at Ghandruk is especially designed for two reasons. First is to allow you for proper acclimatization and secondly you can have enough time to explore around this culturally rich village to understand the customs and lifestyles of the inhabitants. You can also explore the safe and verdant vegetation nearby.

Day 08: Trek to Ghorepani (2775m)

You will chase the tempting streams, elegant waterfalls and verdant rhododendron forest, and make your way to a wide grassy land amid the fabulous spectacle of grandiose snowcapped mountain peaks. Enthralling Mt. Fishtail becomes evident from this point. Traversing through deep forests, we head downward to a small pass, Deurali at 2834m, before sliding down to the village of Ghorepani. From the pass between the two admiring high valleys, excellent views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli unfold before us. Just 10 minutes’ walk beyond the pass is the village of Ghorepani. Ghorepani literally means “horse water” and is a welcoming watering spot for the teams of mules, which ply the route between Pokhara and Jomsom. There are several hotels, shops, a police check post and camping places.

Day 09: Morning excursion at Poon Hill (3193m) and Trek to Birethanti (1050m)

In the very early morning before dawn you will begin your walk to Poonhill; one of the best Himalayan view-points in the world. It is just an hour walk from Ghorepani. There you will get the views of golden panoramas of Annapurnas, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak and other Himalayan giants glittering with the first ray of sun falling upon them. The sunrise would never look so beautiful once you witness it from Poonhill. The popular vantage point of Poon Hill at an altitude of 3193 meters is the most visited trekking destination of Nepal because of the magnificent sunrise view that complements mesmerizing sight of Himalayan range. From Poonhill the descending trial towards Birethanti through magnificent oak and rhododendron forests begin. Crossing the village of Ulleri, a long steep stone staircase seems to go on forever on the way to Birethati. Steadier descent towards the end will bring you to Birethanti. Birethani, which is settled by Modi Khola, comprises of all mod cons shops, hotels, cafes, a police check post, a bakery and a bank.

Day 10: Trek to Naya Pool (1340m) and drive to Pokhara

After your breakfast at Birethanti, you walk towards a pebbly trail that leads to Naya Pool. After walking for few hours, highway opens up. Then after, you will be driven to Pokhara. In Pokhara, you will check into your hotel where you can let go off your exhaustion and take proper rest amidst the lively ambience of the hotel.

Day 11: Free Day at Pokhara

Pokhara is a paradise on Earth. Though you have explored Pokhara on Day-3, there are still so many places and activities you can get involved in. You can drive to Sarangkot; a hill-top at Pokhara and be the part of paragliding session which is extremely adventurous. Or, you can hike to Peace Pagoda just above the Fewa Lake. Choice is yours; a free day at Pokhara is full of choices.

Day 12: Drive to Kathmandu

Kathmandu is just 200km from Pokhara. You can take a flight back but because of a thrilling rafting adventure at Trishuli and the adventurous drive along the snaky highway, driving is a better option. If you prefer rafting in your itinerary, you will be starting the raft from midway between Mugling and Narayanghat. After a fun filled three hours rafting adventure, you will resume your drive back to Kathmandu. If you want to skip the raft still you will be enjoying the landscapes of fierce Himalayan Rivers, tall cliffs and lush vegetation throughout the drive. Your lunch will be at the highway resort.  Once you enter Kathmandu you will again drive through the bustling streets.

Day 13: Free day at Kathmandu/ Farewell Dinner

You will have an entire day set aside for complete relaxation. You can utilize this day doing whatever you feel like. You can simply rest or roam around the city for interesting sightseeing or just go shopping. In the evening, you are cordially invited for the farewell dinner at one of the finest restaurants.

Day 14: Depart Kathmandu

Our driver and the airport representative will drive you to the airport in time for your flight back home. We ensure that you will leave Kathmandu with cherishing memories and an experience of a lifetime.
