Mera Peak Climbing (6476m) - 18 days

Mera Peak is the highest trekking peak in the Everest region standing at an altitude of 6476m. The peak comprises of three main summits: Mera North (6476m), Mera Central (6461m) and Mera South (6065m). The peak is technically not very challenging but well acclimatization and physical fitness is a must to attempt this peak. The peak provides you the most majestic views of Himalayan panorama including five 8000m+ mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Kanchenjunga and many other great summits of 6-7000m range.

Our program and itinerary has been carefully considered and prepared to allow you slow and smooth acclimatization. We assure that by using this itinerary you will have a higher chance of summiting Mera Peak. As a safety measure we provide oxygen, portable altitude chamber, Medical kit, an oxymeter and a satellite phone. This peak climbing is suitable for climbers visiting the Himalayas for the first time or for keen hill walkers with some previous basic experience of using crampons and ice axe. You can learn basic mountaineering skills by our expert guide instructor during the expedition.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m)

As the wide array of silvery Himalayas is visible from the window pane of your plane, you are flying above Nepal. Nepal unfolds its treasure before your actual landing in Nepal. After a few minutes of hide and seek with Himalayas, you will land in Kathmandu. You will be warmly welcomed as per Nepali culture with garland at the airport terminal by a company representative and a driver. A private vehicle will escort you through the vibrant streets of Kathmandu to your designated hotel. Our representative will help you in your check-in procedure and will brief you about the trip beginning the next day.

Day 02: Preparation day in Kathmandu

You will be briefed by your climbing guide on the technicalities, gears, equipment, shopping, legal formality, health precautions, safety tips and other last hour preparations. After briefing, you can spend the rest of your day in last hour shopping and preparation.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2800m) and trek to Chhutenga (3450m)

Early morning you will be served with hearty breakfast in your hotel. Then as per your flight timetable to Lukla you will be transferred to airport in a private vehicle. Thirty minutes flight to Lukla is one of the most thrilling flights. Especially just before landing at Lukla airport the plane flies above a deep gorge and with then makes the landing on the black-pitched air strips beginning at the ridge of the cliff that winds to the wide open airport. The overall flight is a sheer adventure. As you check out from Lukla airport, your trek guide will take your total care. He will brief you about the trek, which will be beginning in few minutes. You will then head eastwards crisscrossing through pristine hamlets and forests. After 3-4 hours of trekking, we you will reach Chutanga.

Day 04: Chhutenga to Kharkateng (3750m)

From Chhutenga, you will steadily walk uphill through rhododendron bushes and waterfalls. Enjoying the surrounding beauty, you will reach Kharkateng in about 5 hours.

Day 05: Kharkateng to Thuli Kharka via Zatrwa La Pass (4350m)

Today you will head upwards to Zatrwa La pass. After crossing the pass, you will continue downhill with occasional flat trail till you reach Thuli Kharka. En route, you will get mesmerizing views the Hinku Valley, Kwangde to the east and Cho Oyu to the north.

Day 06: Thuli Kharka to Khothey (3600m)

Today’s trek is downhill most of the time with occasional uphill through rhododendron bushes and pine trees. En route you will come across Inkha river and walk about an hour upriver until you reach Khothey.

Day 07: Khothey to Tagnak (4350m)

You will start straightway towards Inkhu Khola valley along its flat bottom full of the debris of a retreating glacier. You can have the views of Mera Central and Mera North right in front of you. As you continue, you can also see Mt. Kyashar dominating the sky. Passing through the spectacular valley, you will approach Tangnag.

Day 08: Rest day & acclimatization at Tagnak (4350m)

You can stroll round the village and head to nearby ridge leading to Mount Kusum Khangkaru (6373 m). Or you can explore the beautiful moraine-dammed lake hidden behind the Sabai Glacier.

Day 09: Tagnak to Khare (4900m)

The path will start climbing up to a large grassy plain known as Dig Kharka (4659 m). With the impressive view of Mera and Amadablam, you will continue ahead till you arrive at Khare. The place offers you splendid mountain vistas of north face of Mera, Hinku Shar Glacier and Mera La.

Day 10: Khare to Mera Peak Base Camp (5357m)

You will start with a steep trail traversing below the glacier. As you reach the glacier crest, you will find a flat plain, through which you will continue till you reach the top of the glacier near Mera La Pass. Finally you will reach the Base Camp, where you will find yourself enclosed by towering peaks all around.

Day 11: Base Camp to High Camp (5760m)

The path leads along a rocky trail, which can be hazardous if it has recently snowed, as there are a number of crevasses here. You will make your way to the top of the rock band, which is marked by a large cairn. You will set up a high camp while enjoying excellent views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho-Oyu, south face of Lhotse, Nuptse, Chamlang and Baruntse. You will spend the night at Mera High Camp.

Day 12: High Camp to the Summit (6462m) and back to Khare

Today is the summit day. So, you will wake up quite early around 2 for breakfast. Slowly, you will start ascending the steep slopes. Once you are at the summit, you will have mesmerizing views of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest (8848m), Cho-Oyu (8210m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8463m), Kangchenjunga (8586m), Nuptse (7855m), Chamlang (7319m), Baruntse (7129m) and others peaks. Later, you will retrace through the same trail and stop at Khare for overnight.

Day 13: Khare to Khothey (3600m)

Following the same path you used earlier, you will arrive at Khothey.

Day 14: Khothey to Thuli Kharka (4900m)

Enjoying the stunning views of Mera North, Mera Central and South face, you will continue to Thuli Kharka through rhododendron forests on the west side of the Hinku Valley.

Day 15: Thuli Kharka to Lukla (2800m)

Once again, you will cross Zatrwa La Pass and Chhutanga before being welcomed by the sight of the Lukla surrounded by Cho Oyu, Kongde Peak, Numbur Himal, Kusum Khangru and other Himalayan peaks. Today, you will enjoy both the comfort and beauty of Himalayan region.

Day 16: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu

As per your flight schedule you will board the twin otter plane and fly back to Kathmandu. At Kathmandu, like in earlier occasion you will be received by a company representative and a driver. You will be escorted to your hotel.

Day 17: Free day at Kathmandu, Farewell Cultural Dinner

The long trek in the Himalayan region might have worn you out. Take pleasure in the free day at the Nepali capital. You can just wander in the lively streets of Thamel and Asan, travel around the cultural sights of the city or you may simply chill checking your mail box at hotel room. In the evening your tour officer will pick you up for the dinner at one of the cultural restaurants of Thamel. Enjoy the evening with TAGnepal and after dinner, you will be escorted back to your hotel.

Day 18: Departure back home

Your tour officer and a driver will be at your hotel reception to pick you up three hours prior to your departure. You will be transferred to the airport in a private vehicle. Our tour officer and driver will see you off. Have a safe flight back home!
