Team TAG at Everest Base Camp North side
TAGnepal International Everest Expedition 2016 finally reached Everest Base Camp North side (5,150 metres/16,900 ft) on 20th April. The Base Camp serves as the transit point for all climbers who set their pick to ascend the indomitable Everest. It is a liminal zone that connects the world of Everest and the outer world. So, basically it’s an operational site, a communicating point, and most importantly a “home” to more than two hundred aspirers who dream to see the world from the top of the world. Base Camp at the north side possesses an advantage point as we can see an unobstructed view of the mighty mountain unlike the view from the south side. Team TAG is right now at the very spot and vigorously working for the final preparation. Soon after they reached there, the whole team briskly worked for tent set up and has completed the initial set up so far.
Now, the Camp looks like a colorful mini settlement that inhabits our “Everest Clan” for the next one month till the Expedition wraps up. The settlement temporary though, looks like adding life to the rocky and arid landscape as the wilderness of the Base Camp will witness the bustles of life and passion for next few months. Currently, the team is busy in planning, preparing gears and acclimatizing. While they are still there, they will also be hiking up to gain altitude and return back. They will be making this back and forth trip several times to Intermediate Base Camp and Advanced Base Camp as a part of the whole mountain climbing process. Before all these, once they are settled up properly, a ceremonial “puja” will be performed to ask for the blessings from the Mountain God, the local deities and the Spirits. After all, climbing is hardly about conquering mountains, but about winning ourselves!!!
